INSTALLATION|music project Announces Performer Lineup & Heading Toward Kickstarter Success
Today, the INSTALLATION|music collaborators announce that they have reached their Kickstarter Goal.
The live music / live painting collaborative project has drawn in performers from New Mexico, Kansas City, and around New York state - including suspension artists, a magician, and a mix of musical styles. The artists are supported by a grant from the Broome County Arts Council United Cultural Fund. Performance “sessions” (as the project dubs them) will be August 3 - 11. Throughout INSTALLATION|music, local artist AmarA will be painting a multi-piece mural while her prime collaborator jk will be live streaming the event online.
“The project began when David Bowie died,” performance painter & organizer AmarA states, “it is about transformation: Personal, physical, spiritual, social, political, global. Each performer I will be painting with brings a unique perspective, the painting is the continuity. To be bringing this kind of experimental art to the confluence and our twilight zone, and exporting it back out through the tech of the millennium is thrilling and unique.”
In addition to the support they have received on Kickstarter, I|m is being sponsored by the Bundy Museum of History and Art, Tri-Cities Opera (which will also be performing August 9), Broome Stage Referrals (IATSE Local #54), I am Horror Productions, and Sound Concepts.
“Our sponsors and grant are really covering the nuts and bolts of the installation, making it happen.” AmarA explains, “We are running the Kickstarter to go beyond and because personal interaction and investment in real and unique art creates individual character. It is how we shape our society. It is a connection that will be true as long as the painting lasts. That is why every Backer’s name is being written on the back of the canvases for posterity.”

g.nome is an ongoing, evolving solo musical/multimedia project by Victor Penniman. Ladies and Gentleman, the guy plays the electric viola da gamba while orchestrating an entire electronic medley. It is truly and undeniably unique.
the soulless minions of orthodoxy == the halls of the scientific establishmentIt's a common trope that the scientific community despises new technology or research into "playing gods" fields, that they hate new ideas in favor of existing ones. And with the history of certain subjects, like flat vs round earth, geo centric vs helio centric, origin of species, dinosaurs having feathers, etc, it would be right.
For all you trekkies, it is phrase used in DS9 episode: In the cards:
In the words of Victor Penniman, g.nome is "flowing freely from ambient instrumental textures into striking, often funky improvisations into songs and back again. With influences as diverse as Medieval European Polyphony, Indonesian gamelan, Japanese Gagaku, European opera, and 70s Funk, Rock, and Jazz, g.nome (pronounced “gee’-nome”) and the soulless minions of orthodoxy creates music from across time and distance to which "you may groove as you will."
And groove I shall, brush in hand to tell the story of the world that has never been as it is now: So full with so many living so long, worldwide connectivity. We are the millennium and while none of us steer the world, we each pick our own path and through us each the collective the path of the future, to the stars, through destruction, beyond impossible, and guided by the light in the darkness. Isn't that reason enough to groove together?

“I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.” - David Bowie
"There is a trick my mentor taught me, that I've never done" John said to me when he first heard about INSTALLATION | music (and I am paraphrasing) "He's gone. And the trick involves a photo...I want to do this."
You never really know what a magician will do.
I can hear you asking:
So, there will be a magician...and a painter? How is that going to work?
It will work like magic, folks.
Just like magic.
